Research Project Preface
My past experiences with research writing in school involved a lot of effort. My English teachers were all very stern about what they expected and most of the time it was more than i was willing to offer and because of that i think i began to hate English. My experiences with research writing was very boring and basic, every year was the same criteria.

The topic I chose to write about was the Governor opening back up our state with this pandemic still in an uproar. This topic stood out to me because there is a lot of controversy whether it is a good idea to reopen or not. In my paper I included many details supporting both sides of the claim and came out with a great argument. This paper was very interesting to write because I didn’t think I would enjoy discussing any economic issue for a research paper. My paper is a persuasive piece to make readers agree that it is best if we stay home and our state does not reopen.
Should Governor Tom Wolf reopen Pennsylvania on May 8th?
As we all may know, we are going through a pandemic known as the Coronavirus, also known as Covid-19. The Covid-19 pandemic is an illness caused by a virus that can spread from person to person. This virus is a dangerously high risk situation for all humans but more so elders and people living with health problems, one being asthma. The first case of Covid-19 was found in a 55 year old person from Wuhan, China back in November of 2019. Somehow between November and January, this virus made its way to America and is making our everyday lives difficult. There have been 79,425 deaths in America due to this virus. Our states have been shut down since March 2020 and are yet to reopen. People are losing jobs and filing for unemployment, and the ones who are still working everyday are risking their own health and are more likely to contract this virus. This pandemic is just getting worse and worse with no set solution. Many Americans may be wondering if and when Tom Wolf will reopen our state and will it ever be “normal” again.
Not only has this pandemic caused an economic hardship, it has caused separations between families and even worse deaths. Any essential workers most being doctors and nurses would rather not go home to their families every night because they are exposed to this virus everyday at work and fear that they will bring it home. Hotels, arenas and convention centers that would otherwise be sitting dormant are turning into hospitals, quarantine centers or dormitories for health care workers. Although we see our frontline workers as heroes, which they are, they too have experienced the worst of this disease, facing death. During this time, many doctors have come face to face with depression, anxiety, and even insomnia. Medical professionals are already at risk for many of these conditions at baseline—medical occupations have among the highest rates of suicide—yet they are typically unlikely to seek help. Apart from doctors, many other families are being torn apart from their loved ones in other ways, one being if they are in a nursing home. Nursing homes are not allowing visitors during these times because the risk of contracting the virus will heighten for staff and the elders living there. Although phone calls may seem like enough it just isn’t when you have a family member dying alone of Covid-19. The Coronavirus has also put a halt to the Class of 2020, both high school and college from experiencing the full effect of their long awaited milestone of prom and graduating. Now, Class of 2020 graduation isn't as ideal or sentimental being that they are now virtual.
Tom Wolf should not open back up the state for a variety of reasons one important reason being that people are dying from this virus! Within the entire world there have been 281,582 deaths linked to the Coronavirus alone in the time span of 6 months! Total cases increased by 54% over the past week, the smallest seven-day change in a month that saw the state descend into lockdown as the virus spread exponentially. The spread is only getting bigger with no cureable vaccine. Reopening Pennsylvania will only make matters even more worse than they already are. With businesses closed and people out of jobs this will hurt our economy, but it reduces the risk of people being infected with this virus. The Coronavirus is spreading everyday with no valuable solution and this should be taken more seriously. If everybody made it an effort to stay home if they aren’t an essential worker the total numbers of deaths and infections will most likely decrease and maybe then the Governor could open back up our state. Not only is it important to stay home but be very cautious of how you may interact with people and make it an effort to wash your hands very often. Aside from the health reasons, many families have become closer now that they are in the house together more often than before. Many individuals even took on the trait of learning how to cook others even began to take better care of themselves physically and mentally. Being in “lockdown” has opened people's eyes and showed them that it is okay to slow down and enjoy the moment. It has also given Mother Nature the time it needs to heal.
Many Americans may be on the side of wanting Pennsylvania to reopen so they can go back to their everyday lives of working, attending social events and going to school. Among the 33% of Americans who say they or someone in their household has either lost a job or took a pay cut because of the coronavirus outbreak, 54% say their personal life has changed in a major way as a result of the outbreak. Some living situations may not be as ideal as your own and could be in harms way to some individuals. Being home has caused some individuals to have mild depression and others to overeat due to boredom. With that being said reopening outside could help resolve these issues. More than half of all U.S. adults (55%) say they have prayed for an end to the spread of coronavirus. College students fear that they will not be able to move into their dorms for the upcoming fall 2020 academic school year because of this pandemic. Reopening our state could put all of these minor issues and fears to rest. Although this will be very ideal there is just too much at risk.
With the information supported it would be best if we stay inside until it is positive that this outbreak is behind us. Take this time to actually get to know yourselves and detox from all of the negative energies in the world. Take on a new hobby whether it be yoga or something less physical like reading. Whatever you choose to do, keep yourself safe. Would you rather be safe than sorry because I know I would.
